9 Tips To Remove Blackheads At Home |
Blackheads are black spots that appear on the surface of the skin like pin points and are caused when the pores get clogged with sebum, bacteria and dead skin cells.
Blackheads should be removed from the skin surface because it can cause the pores get infected leading to acne. Moreover, blackheads should be removed very carefully. If not done carefully and effectively, blackheads can leave behind scars and open pores.
There are various cosmetic products available in the market for removing blackheads. Though most of the products are effective, some may find them harsh on the skin. However, there are some effective home remedies for removing blackheads and can be effectively used to treat mild or moderate blackheads sans any side effects on your skin. Below are given ten useful and effective tips for removing blackheads at home.
Tomato Lemon Oatmeal Mask
The acids in tomato and lemon are helpful for removing blackheads. But tomato juice and lemon juice should not be directly applied on the skin for it may be harsh on the skin. Therefore they should always be mixed with a base and then applied on the skin. Oatmeal can act as a perfect base since it is an excellent exfoliant.
Take a ripe tomato and peel it. Put the peeled tomato in a blender and add one teaspoon lemon juice and adequate oatmeal and blend till it makes a smooth paste. Apply this paste thickly on the affected areas over the blackheads on your cleansed face and leave it for 10 minutes. When the mask is half dried, scrub it off gently and wash off with lukewarm water.
Regular use of this mask can work wonders and give you back your perfect complexion. This mask can also be applied over the whole face and body since it can also exfoliate and add a healthy glow to your skin.
Epsom Salt-Iodine Rinse
This rinse can effectively let the blackheads to loosen out so that you can squeeze them out gently without harming the skin. Boil 3/4th cup of water till it becomes half the quantity. Remove it from the heat and then add a few drops of iodine and 1 teaspoon of Epsom salt into the boiling water and stir it so that all mixes well. Allow this mixture to cool down for some 15 to 20 minutes so that it can be applied on the skin.
Soak cotton wool into this rinse and squeeze out excess liquid so that the cotton wool remains wet but does not drip. Then dab the cotton ball onto the affected areas where blackheads are prevalent. Then after 1 or 2 minutes, gently squeeze the blackheads with a fresh tissue until the dark blackhead center comes out. After they come out apply cold water on your face which will help the pores to close and thus prevent dirt and bacteria to get into the pores again.
Baking Soda
Take 2 tbsp. of oatmeal and add 1/4th tsp. of baking soda into it. Add plain water and make a paste. You can also add 1tsp. aloe vera gel into the mixture if you like. Apply this paste over the blackheads affected areas and leave for 5 minutes. Scrub it off gently for a minute and then wash off with warm water. This pack helps to loosen the core of the blackheads so that it comes out easily.
Lemon Cucumber Blend
Lemon juice and cucumber juice can effectively reduce the appearance of the blackheads. Blend equal amounts of lemon juice and cucumber juice with rose water and apply the blended mixture on the affected areas of your skin. Leave it for 40 minutes and then rinse with warm water. This mixture is also very effective in curing acne.
Daily or weekly usage of this mixture can help you to get rid of blackheads as well as other dark spots thus giving you a perfect radiant clear complexion.
Cornmeal
Cornmeal is an excellent exfoliant and is very effective in removing blackheads fast. It is effective on both newly formed blackheads and mature blackheads. Take 3 to 4 tbsp. of cornmeal and make a paste by adding adequate water. Apply on your face and nose and other affected areas of your skin and massage it for five minutes. Then rinse it off with lukewarm water. Always use an oil free moisturizer after this treatment.
Honey
Mix 2 tbsp. of honey and 2 tsp. of cinnamon powder. Mix it well and apply on the blackhead affected areas of your skin. Leave on for 45 minutes and then rinse with warm water. There will be a hot and tingling sensation initially. This honey mask helps to loosen the blackheads and removes it from the core. Repeat the treatment for three weeks daily and get ready to get a clear complexion absolutely free from blackheads.
Fenugreek
Another effective way to loosen blackheads so that they get removed easily is to crush fenugreek herb and apply it on the affected areas after mixing it with water. Apply this in a circular motion on your skin and then leave on for 10 minutes. Wash it off with warm water. It effectively exfoliates the skin and therefore helps to loosen the hardened core of the blackheads.
Egg White
Mix an egg white with corn flour well and apply this mixture on the blackheads. After 30 minutes wet the applied area with warm water and then massage gently for a minute. Rinse with warm water. Egg white will loosen the blackheads by drying up the oily areas of the skin.
Steam
Steaming your face can also be a good option in removing blackheads. Boil some water with a few basil leaves. Remove the water from heat and then stand over the pot letting the steam to hit your face. Be careful not to keep your face too close otherwise you can burn your skin. Cover your head and shoulders with a towel to let the steam hit your face more effectively.
After 10 minutes it will open up your pores and you can gently squeeze out the blackheads. If squeezing does not work then you may also use a blackhead removing tool.
